The Thomson Bowl Jam has become the biggest bowl skating competition of the South Island and definitely the highlight of our Summer skate jam series.
Last Saturday’s event certainly lived up to expectations — the whole place was buzzing with activity with a crowd of over 500! It wasn’t without your typical Christchurch Easterly wind, so we were constantly cleaning sand and dust out of the bowl, but besides that the weather was great.
The young guns weren’t holding back with the likes of 12 y/o Vincent Bolt setting the level and taking 1st in the 13 & under division. Thomson Skate Jam: Photos & Results

The annual Thomson Skate Jam took place last Saturday. Amongst the heavily hit suburb of New Brighton the local skate facility showed no obvious signs of earthquake damage. Over 400 people enjoyed the free event which kicked off with a demo from the ‘locals only’ skate crew.
The bowl competition was the highlight of the event with 42 competitors as young as 7 year old Harry Kitchen right through to 50 year old local Mike Smith. People crowded around the bowl to witness some of the finest skateboarders in Christchurch.
The level of skating was pretty high and some amazing skateboarding took place at the skatepark which was upgraded nearly two years ago. Bowl skating has thrived in Christchurch since the upgrade and this was evident on the day. Carnage was kept to a minimum with the only … Read More »

It takes more than mother nature’s wrath to stop us from putting on the Thomson Park Skate Jam! When this park was built, it was built to last. The earthquake may have caused havoc across our city but many of our parks still stand strong, including Thomson Park.
