As the days get shorter and weather turns wilder we count down our last couple of events of the 2011/2012 summer series. Saturday’s Jellie Skate Jam was a good day for all and lucky for us the weather stayed on our side.
Over the summer we have noticed some incredible talent coming through in the younger divisions with the likes of the 9 y/o Schweikl twins (Jacob and Dion) who have been turning heads over the last few comps, meaning a bright future ahead for NZ skateboarding. It’s cool to see more girls getting down to our events too!
Thanks to all that came down and all the sponsors who helped make it happen – The Christchurch City Council – Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board, Cheapskates, Sport Canterbury, Sport New Zealand and Skullcandy.

Great day for a jam last Sunday at Jellie Park other than a cool breeze you would think it might still be summer. Good to see a lot of skaters amongst the scooter frenzy and some bloody good skateboarding went down that day. The ‘locals only’ Brighton crew were ripping as per usual with the usual suspects tearing it up.
The big air comp got underway after the best trick comp with a final showdown between Jordan Kidd, Josh Stewart, Eugene Corbin, Ryan DeSouza, and James Kingston with some ridiculous sky high airs taking place.
Cheers to the crew who helped out on the day and the sponsors for making it happen — Cheapskates, The Christchurch City Council, Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board, Sport Canterbury, Skullcandy, SPARC, and Hellers for the free sausages which we dished out all day long. Scroll … Read More »

The first event of the 2011 Cheapskates Skate Skool series kicked off on Sunday with the Jellie Park Skate Jam. Despite the crappy weather, the crowd of around 300 were amped to be there. The layout of the park proved interesting and the direction of flow created a ‘Woodford Glen style’ derby feel with over 100 skaters ripping around the park luckily without too much carnage.
The free BBQ was a hit and free board hire gave those without wheels a chance to give it a go with help from the Skate Skool crew. The Brighton ‘Locals Only’ crew were on form as usual and took away half the prizes with some burly tricks and big airs. North Island ABC rider Brad Christensen killed it in the best trick comp with a hard flip from the top of … Read More »
