Dan Kelcher » Backside Boneless
Quite possibly one of the best events we have had at St. Albans went down last Saturday and I can only hope you were there to catch the action. Being the school holidays, the place packed out quickly. The ramp at St. Albans is one of the most fun ramps around and the only spine ramp in the district.
All the regular crew were amped and put on a good show for us, meanwhile a swarm of beginners took to the surrounding concrete, many learning to skate for the first time.
Some amazing skating went down in the comp with the likes of Troy Newton, Jack Woodrow, James Kingston, Ned Simpson and of course Dan Kelcher getting all crazy. The girls division proved popular with the most female competitors we have ever had enter, a special mention to 13 y/o Megan Wilson who busted a whole bunch of flip tricks taking home 1st place!
Thanks again to our sponsors: Christchurch City Council (Shirley/Papanui Community Board), Cheapskates, Skullcandy, Sport Canterbury, Hellers and the Cancer Society.
The photos say it all, big thanks to Andy Brown for capturing the shots below.

Zak Mclean » Kickflip » Busyard gap, Christchurch
Welcome the first post of Brofile. Since we realised we were quickly running out of potential groms in Christchurch, we decided to change the name from Grom of the Month so we can continue our shoot and rider profile to riders of all ages and backgrounds.
To kick things off we caught up with local ripper Zak Mclean and ventured around a few street spots in Christchurch. One thing I noted about Zak when he’s in front of the camera, he’s committed — he doesn’t give up. If he doesn’t land something, he keeps at it until it’s stomped, and stomped cleanly.
Here’s what Zak had to say for our quickfire questions:
Name: Zak Mclean
Age? 16
Regular or goofy? Regular
Fav local spot/skatepark: Washington Skate Park
Fav trick? Gotta love them kickflips
Street/Park/Bowl? — Why? Street, just love going to a spot and trying tricks nobody has done before.
Who hooks you up? Nobody
Fav all time skateboarder? NYJAH HUESTON
Fav skate vid/ last one you watched? Nyjah Hueston — Rise & Shine
Listening to music while skating? Hate it.
Tight or loose trucks? Loose
Worst skating injury? Probably chipped hip, or broken foot.
Current setup? Skategear deck, Thunder titanium lights, Bones STF wheels, Abec 7 black panthers.
A good skateboarder’s diet should always include? B.K. and Gatorade.
What are you going to be doing in 5 years? Hopefully skating.
Any final words? Ouuuutttttt.
Scroll on for some more sweet shots by Andy Brown…
