Big kick turn from 7 year old Charles Lord
The coastal suburbs of Sumner and Redcliffs have been through hell of the last few months so we thought we could help cheer them up with a good ol’ skate jam.
The event was originally planned to be held at Redcliffs School but due to never ending earthquakes damaging the cliff behind the school we were forced to find a new venue with only a few weeks out from the event. Fortunately the principal at Sumner School was more than happy for us to bring the event to Sumner. Youth were so keen for this event they were down there skating around as early as 10am and this crowd grew to around 200 through out the day.
Unfortunately Sumner is yet to receive a skate facility so instead we brought in the Skate Skool mobile skatepark to the excitement of the local rippers.
Recently the the local community have been pushing for a skate park as part of the rebuild and you can support them by jumping on facebook and giving the page ‘Sumner Skate Park’ the thumbs up. All up it was a super nice sunny day with loads of friendly faces both young and old. The skating was good, free BBQ all day and no one got hurt so all up another successful event for the Cheapskates Skate Skool.
A big thank you to Tim and Steve from Fuse (local youth group) and Matt Stevenson for helping out on the day, oh yea and all the awesome sponsors who helped make this event happen — Cheapskates, Sport Canterbury, SPARC, The Christchurch City Council, Skullcandy and Hellers for the free sizzlers.
The school holidays are here now so get out skating, don’t forget to check out our last event until next summer — The BIG CHILL will be going down next Friday 29th July down at Linwood park. Hope to see you there!

After keeping an eye on this young dude over our summer series and seeing him absolutely rip around the parks at the mere age of nine, we decided to get him onboard for July’s Grom of the Month… Introducing Saul Titheridge.
Saul is definitely one to watch with his 110% commitment and enthusiasm to skateboarding. He drops in, bails, gets back on the board and drops in again until he gets it. Awesome to see. Colder months have set in but that hasn’t stopped people from getting out on their boards, nor has it put an end to our events. We’ve got an event happening over in Sumner School (Colenso Street) on Saturday 16th July. ‘Optimus Grind’ the mobile skate will be there, a free BBQ to warm up the masses, and the Skate Skool team will be there helping out with trick tips. Oh and there’ll also be our famous best trick comp of course.
See you all there!
