Darfield here we come! Well worth the road trip to this lil’ park way out in the Selwyn District which has a couple of cool features to skate plus a tight little bowl for the ramp dogs. We’re gonna be down there with free gear hire, learn to skate with our team and a best trick competition. Beginners welcome!! Get on-board!!

2013 Thomson Bowl Jam – Photos & Results

Massive crowds enjoyed some insane bowl skating at the annual Thomson Skate Jam last Saturday. The weather turned it on for us and without a doubt the event went down a treat for all involved, the place was buzzing!!

Well done to the Cheapskates Store team riders, Dan Kelcher for slaying it in the 16 & Unders, also to Vinnie Bolt and Liam Currie for 1st and 2nd in the 13′s. Lindsey Bae took 2nd in the Open with an unexpected Swiss tourist by the name of Cedric blowing minds and taking 1st and Best Trick!!

Some gnarly tricks went down including Josh Bamfords ridiculous ollie to the flat in the big end, 10ft+ plus! And quite possibly some of the biggest airs the bowl has seen went down that day!

A huge thank you going out to Richard Logchies, the local caretaker of the Thomson Bowl for volunteering hours of his own time filling in the cracks and keeping the place clean not only on the day but on the regular!! Dudes a legend!

This event was made possible with funding from the Cheapskates, Sport Canterbury, Sport NZ and the Christchurch City Council.

Thanks to all the contributing sponsors for putting up the prizes and supporting the event. Cheers to Mai FM for cooking up the BBQ, also to the Youth Alive Trust for managing the gear hire on the day.

Upcoming Event – Belfast Skate Jam

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Papanui Skate Jam will now be held at Sheldon Park down the road in Belfast. This park boasts a sketchy lil’ mini ramp plus an adjacent concrete court which we will set up some ramps for an afternoon Jam. Best Trick comp on the mini and a free BBQ thanks to Hellers! Aimed at beginners with free gear hire and free help from the Skate Skool Team.

Wow have we been super busy this summer!! The Skate Skool team have been rolling around running jams all over the district!
Thanks to all that have supported us this summer and we hope you’ve enjoyed our skate events as much as we have!
No doubt skating is still alive and thriving in the Garden City with local up coming skaters continually steppin up and surprising us from no where.
Theres a whole next generation coming through this year and some outstanding up and comers we have noticed lately are:
Brad Fast, The Schweikl Twins Jacob and Dion, Myka Stringer, Daniel CG, Jacob Houghton, William Lochhead (Ashburton) and the twins Amy & May from Tai Tapu with their friend Michaela.

As well as our busy events schedule we have also been involved with hundreds of free skate programmes for youth in schools across Canterbury as well as heaps of other projects!

We have still got a bunch of jams happening before winter, so make sure you keep an eye on our facebook for all the info on where we are at next!

This weekend we’re at Linwood Park as part of the annual Linwood Youth Festival Experience (LYFE). Gonna be setup with free gear hire available, Get on-board and learn to skate with our team. Competition kicking off at 2.00pm. There’s gonna be a heap of other cool stuff going down in the park so will be a fun day out fo sure! Prizes from Cheapskates & Skullcandy!

It is with great excitement we present to you the 2013 Thomson Bowl Jam on Saturday 23rd March. This highly anticipated event is set to deliver some insane skateboarding to the people of Christchurch at the renowned Thomson Bowl of New Brighton.

Beginners welcome for a learn to skate session with the Skate Skool team from 12.00 – 1.00pm with free gear hire available through out the day.

Competition will kick off 1.00pm with rego from midday. Free to enter! Divisions: 13 & Under, 16 & Under, Open Mens/Wmns

Pads and Helmet recommended for competitors.

Best Trick Competition on the vert end.

We’re stoked to have Mai FM rocking down to cook up the free Hellers BBQ!
