Our next event we’re taking over Linwood Park for the annual Linwood X-Games Jam. Skaters and Bikers will unite for an afternoon of shreddin’ good times! Get along and join in on the jam or learn to skate with our roaming team of instructors with free gear hire available. Other activities include a bouncy obstacle course for the lil’ groms, Pedalmania’s crazy collection of bikes and a basketball shoot out and casual game of hoops. The Mai FM team will also be cranking up a free BBQ to feed the masses with sausages donated by Hellers! Big ups to Cheapskates, Skullcandy, EDH Bikes and Push Bikes for hooking up prizes for the jam format competition, register on the day! Get along!

Its that time of year, Cheapskates presents the Canterbury Skate Regionals all locked in for Saturday 8th November. Lay down your best tricks and be in to win some epic prizes up for grabs plus bragging also prequalify for the NZ Skate Nationals. Multi Division – 13’s, 16’s and Open Mens and Womans. There will be a showdown best trick comp on the big stair set, rail and hubbas. Big ups to all the supporting sponsors for helping make it happen!
Adding to ‘The Big Chill’ youth jam series with thanks to The Winter Chill funding from The Ministry of Youth Development we will be heading out to Pegasus Town in North Canterbury in a couple of weeks!
This event is a family focused all ages Youth Jam with heaps of FREE activities on the day including Learn to Skate Workshop with free gear hire, a basketball shoot-out comp, a bouncy castle for the micro-groms and Pedalmania will be getting involved with their crazy collection of whacky bikes!
This will be a fun filled day out for the family for those out and around North Canterbury so get on down on Saturday 25th October from 12 – 3pm.
Last Saturday, Washington skate park hosted its 1st Bowl Jam with an amping crowd of over 500 people supporting over 30 skaters in what is regarded as one of the gnarliest bowls in NZ.
The vibe was awesome with skaters as young as 8 ripping alongside 50 year olds in the mega bowl on a epic sunny day in the grid city.
The competition saw the level jump up a notch with the Henare family from Taupo claiming 1st place in 3 of 5 of the divisions – 8y/o Rhya in the Girls, 8y/o Remus in the 13 and Unders and 11y/o Rico in the 16’s. Theres something magic going on in those genes!

It is with great excitement that we announce the 1st official Bowl Jam at the newly ungraded Washington Skate Park will be going down on Saturday 20th September! All are welcome to join in on a open bowl session followed by a jam format competition to top the day off and ‘up the ante!’ Divisions will be 13 & Under, 16 & under, Open Mens and Womans plus Veterans (35+). Live music will be pumping from the legendary Bass Factory Sound System with DJ’s Messenjah, Gooba and Twisted Dub on the mix!
The new bowl is no doubt the biggest and gnarliest in NZ and so come check out some on the ballsiest local skaters in an exhibition bowl skating/music jam session in the sun!!

The Big Chill Youth Jam is back again but this time at Jellie Park and set to be another fun filled day out for all ages. Join the Cheapskates Skate Skool and Learn to Skate with free gear hire available on the day.Once you’ve mastered some tricks, bust them out for sweet prizes in the competition.Also happening on the day will be a bouncy castle, Pedalmania ‘crazy bikes’, a free BBQ plus you can shoot some hoops with some Canterbury Rams players!
Join us these July school holidays for another Big Chill winter youth jam. 1st up were at Linwood Park on Saturday 12th with a whole array of activities going on to excite the whole family. Learn to skate, free BBQ, ‘Pedalmania’ crazy bikes will be there and so will a few of the Canterbury Rams with the Mai FM hoop. Theres also going to be a bouncy castle for the little ones so get the whole family together, grab your wheels and roll down for The Big Chill at Linwood Park on Saturday 12th July.
Thought we better do something over the South East side of town so we’re off to Hoon Hay. She’s not the flashest skate park in the land but we’ll be bringin’ in our mobile setup to spice things up a bit. Free gear hire will be available plus learn to skate with our team of instructors. Best Trick comp and a BBQ plus Pedalmania ‘crazy bikes’ will be there!
Most definitely one of the radest comps we’ve held went down last Saturday at Thomson Park, the place was buzzing with energy and a 500+ crowd of people we’re lucky enough to witness some incredible skating from shredders from across the South Island. This event has become the most highly anticipated jam on the calendar and the calibre of skating was proof of this! This was our 9th annual Thomson Bowl Jam and the level seems to jump up a notch every year! Local legend Dan Kelcher took honors in the Open division and respect to him for deciding to jump in with the Open Mens, even though he is still only 16!
